On April 28th, 2026, we proudly celebrated the opening of Tansley Reena Residence — a home made possible through vision, collaboration, and strong partnerships across all levels of government.
Modelled after the success of Reena’s Kerrybrook residence, Tansley was purpose-built to provide deeply affordable, specialized housing for people with complex needs.
For too many individuals, the alternative has meant years spent in hospitals or temporary settings — not because they belong there, but because the right home did not exist. Others have aged out of the children’s system with nowhere appropriate to transition. Tansley helps change that.
The urgency of this need has been highlighted in the Ontario Ombudsman’s report Lost in Translation, which outlines the growing number of adults with developmental disabilities and complex needs who remain in hospital far longer than necessary.
Tansley is part of the solution — a community-based home designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health needs, and complex behaviours, offering stability, dignity, and a true sense of belonging.
From land acquisition and planning to funding and construction, Tansley reflects what is possible when municipal, provincial, and federal partners work together with community leadership to create practical, compassionate solutions.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Steven Del Duca, Deputy Mayor Linda Jackson, Councillor Gila Martow, MPP Laura Smith, MPP Lorne Coe, Vaughan Council, York Region, the Province of Ontario, and the Government of Canada through CMHC and the Affordable Housing Fund. Your support and shared commitment to inclusive housing have made this home possible.
This is more than a residence.
It is a home.
And it stands as a powerful example of what can happen when we come together to build belonging.
