How We Support Our Volunteers

Training and support, every step of the way.

Whether you’re new to volunteering or just new to Reena, you’ll learn new skills and experience growth through comprehensive training and ongoing support.

Reena campers have varying abilities, so we provide specialized training in communication techniques, behavioural support and creating inclusive environments. You’ll never feel unprepared or unsupported in your role as a Reena volunteer.

Our digital onboarding process is easy and supportive, with online modules, training videos and virtual orientations to get you set. In-person training sessions let you learn about our program’s values, structure, and best practices for supporting neurodiverse individuals.

Impact Through Action

Our volunteers become part of incredible transformations in the lives of the individuals we support. Through the care and compassion of our team, young adults with neurodiverse abilities discover new talents, build confidence and form connections that enrich their lives.

Reena’s community service volunteer opportunities create ripple effects extending far beyond camp programs. Our volunteers tell us they feel more confident, more empathetic, and more prepared for the future. Many pursue careers in education, healthcare, or social services, inspired by their experience with us.

Common Questions

No experience is needed! We offer comprehensive training so you can feel confident in a new role. Many of our volunteers started with no prior experience, and structured training ensures you can do your best when working with the individuals we support.

Our programs are supportive environments for both campers and volunteers.

Our volunteers support campers in a variety of activities including arts and crafts, adapted sports, educational workshops, social activities and recreational outings. Roles at the camp include counselor or group leader, peer mentor and activity assistant. All activities are designed to promote social, emotional and physical development.

Our screening process can take between 2-4 weeks, prioritizing the safety and success of both the volunteers and the individuals we support. The process includes contacting Volunteer Services (or submitting an inquiry form here on the website), submitting your resume, scheduling an interview, participating in orientation, signing off on all related policies and procedures, obtaining your Vulnerable Sector Screen, submitting references and completing your related training.
