A National Recognition of Inclusive Sustainability
We are proud to announce that Reena’s GReena initiative has been officially recognized in the Government of Canada’s 2025 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Report — a national spotlight on how inclusion, sustainability, and employment can thrive together.

Empowering People, Protecting the Planet
GReena is Reena’s innovative response to a vital challenge: how to create inclusive, green job opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities. Launched as part of our long-term sustainability vision, GReena blends environmental action with dignified employment, opening pathways for Reena-supported individuals to grow, contribute, and thrive.
In 2024, in partnership with Growcer, we launched an accessible vertical hydroponic farm, the first of its kind to produce kosher-certified vegetables in Canada. With adjustable workstations and barrier-free design, the farm gives Reena-supported participants a chance to gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, while building self-confidence, practical skills, and greater independence.
“Reena, a non-profit organization, launched an initiative to create meaningful employment opportunities for people with diverse abilities. Aptly named GReena, it is designed to make environmental engagement more inclusive and accessible, and is a lifeline for its participants, who find purpose, dignity, and self-confidence through meaningful work.” (from the report).

Through collaborative partnerships with organizations like the Learning Enrichment Foundation, Oakwood Vaughan Community Hub, and Bathurst Clark Resource Library, GReena has expanded beyond farming into recycling and local food security — delivering measurable benefits to both the environment and the community.
A Milestone for Reena and the Sector
Reena’s inclusion in Canada’s SDG Report marks a milestone, not only for our organization, but for the broader developmental services and social enterprise sectors. It demonstrates how local, inclusive initiatives can meaningfully contribute to national and global sustainability goals.
As we celebrate this honour, we remain focused on growing GReena’s reach and impact with gratitude to the staff, participants, families, and partners who have helped bring this vision to life.
